William Kunstler
William Moses Kunstler (July 7, 1919 – September 4, 1995) was an American lawyer and civil rights activist. He gained recognition for his defense of the Chicago Seven during the late 1960s and early 1970s, which earned him the reputation of being the country's most controversial and well-known lawyer according to The New York Times. Kunstler was an active member of the National Lawyers Guild and served on the board of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). He co-founded the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), a prominent organization for radical lawyers. Kunstler also defended various individuals and groups, including members of the Revolutionary Communist Party, Catonsville Nine, Black Panther Party, Weather Underground Organization, Attica Prison rioters, and the American Indian Movement.
