William Patrick Roache (born 25 April 1932) is an English actor best known for his role as Ken Barlow in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street. He has appeared in the show since its first broadcast on 9 December 1960, making him the longest-serving cast member. Roache holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-serving television star in a continuous role. Born in Nottingham, Roache grew up in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. He attended a Steiner school established by his physician and surgeon grandfather. Roache's father was a doctor, and his mother ran a restaurant and tea rooms at Alton Towers. He has had a successful career as an actor with his notable role on Coronation Street.
