Winnie Holzman is an American dramatist, screenwriter, and poet known for her work in television and on Broadway. She created the ABC television series My So-Called Life, which earned her a nomination for a scriptwriting Emmy Award in 1995. Holzman also wrote for popular shows thirtysomething and Once and Again. On Broadway, she co-wrote the highly successful musical Wicked. Born in Manhattan and raised in Roslyn Heights, New York, Holzman attended the Circle in the Square Theatre School as a teenager. She later graduated from Princeton University with a degree in English and a concentration in Creative Writing. Holzman has received numerous awards for her poetry, including the Academy of American Poets Prize.
