Wynton Learson Marsalis is an American trumpeter, composer, and music instructor, currently serving as the artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. Born on October 18, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Marsalis has been a prominent figure in promoting classical and jazz music, particularly among young audiences. He has won nine Grammy Awards and made history with his oratorio Blood on the Fields, becoming the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Notably, Marsalis is the only musician to have won a Grammy Award in both jazz and classical categories in the same year.
