Yo-Yo Ma (born October 7, 1955) is an American cellist. Born and partially raised in Paris to Chinese parents and educated in New York City, he began performing as a child prodigy at the age of four and a half. Ma graduated from the Juilliard School and Harvard University, and has since become a renowned soloist, performing with orchestras worldwide. With over 90 albums recorded, Ma has received 19 Grammy Awards. His repertoire extends beyond classical music, encompassing folk music from various cultures, including American bluegrass, traditional Chinese melodies, Argentine tangos, and Brazilian music. He has also collaborated with notable artists across different genres and is a United Nations Messenger of Peace since 2006.
