She graduated from the Kuwazawa Design School in Tokyo and currently resides in Paris, France. Onodera's notable series 'Portrait of Second-Hand Clothes' utilized garments from Christian Boltanski's installation 'Dispersion,' which evokes themes of death and loss. Since 1993, she has exhibited extensively worldwide, and her work is held in prestigious institutions such as The Getty Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. Onodera has received several accolades, including the New Photographer Higashikawa Prize in 2001, the Kimura Ihei Award in 2002, and the Prix Niépce in 2006. She has also published books such as 'How to Make a Pearl' and 'Transvest.'
