Yvette Freeman is an American actress, singer, and director. She gained recognition for her work in stage productions before transitioning to television. Freeman made her Broadway debut in 1979 in the original production of Ain't Misbehavin' and won the Obie Award for her performance in the 1998 Off-Broadway play Dinah Was. On TV, she is best known for her roles as Haleh Adams in ER, Evelyn Smalley in Working, and Irma Lerman in Orange Is the New Black. Born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware, Freeman initially pursued a career in graphic design before finding success in acting. She has also appeared in shows like Tales from the Crypt, Knots Landing, and L.A. Law.
