    Zita Johann Biography
    Zita Johann (1904-1993) was an Austrian-American actress known for her role in Karl Freund's film The Mummy (1932) starring Boris Karloff. Born Elisabeth Johann in Deutschbentschek, Austria-Hungary (now Romania), she emigrated to the United States in 1911. Johann made her Broadway debut in 1924 and her first film appearance in D.W. Griffith's 1931 film The Struggle. After seven films, she focused on theater, working with John Houseman and Orson Welles. She also taught acting to individuals with learning disorders. Johann's last film appearance was in the 1986 horror film Raiders of the Living Dead. She was married three times and directed at Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack, New York in 1962.
