In divided North America, a privatized corporation controls the prison system by turning criminals into law enforcers. Its founder, nanoscientist Eion Prescott, unleashes a nano virus called Onyx via lethal wrist devices that infect inmates and coerce them to kill rivals for freedom. One prisoner attempts to topple it internally.
