What is The Penguin (TV) About?
The Penguin is an upcoming American television limited series that serves as a spin-off from the film The Batman (2022). Created by Lauren LeFranc, the series delves into the origins and rise to power of the iconic DC Comics character Penguin within the criminal underworld of Gotham City. It stars Colin Farrell, who reprises his role as the Penguin, alongside Cristin Milioti in a supporting role. The series is produced by 6th & Idaho, DC Studios, and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Development for the series began in September 2021, with Colin Farrell confirmed to reprise his role soon after. HBO Max ordered the series shortly after the release of The Batman in March 2022. Craig Zobel has been enlisted to direct the first three episodes, and filming commenced in March 2023 in New York. However, production was temporarily suspended in June due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and later resumed in late November. The Penguin promises to offer an intriguing exploration of the classic character's journey, providing an insight into his transformation into one of Gotham's most notorious figures.
