Allison Janney is an American actress known for her performances on screen and stage. She was born on November 19, 1959, in Boston and raised in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from Kenyon College, she received a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. Janney's breakthrough role came as C. J. Cregg in the NBC political drama series The West Wing (1999–2006), for which she won four Primetime Emmy Awards. She has also received numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award, a Golden Globe Award, and seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Janney is well-known for her role as Bonnie Plunkett on the CBS sitcom Mom (2013–2021).
