Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, born October 13, 1980, is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She gained recognition in 2002 when she signed with Murder Inc. Records and collaborated with artists like Fat Joe and Ja Rule on hit songs such as 'What's Luv?' and 'Always on Time.' Ashanti made history by becoming the first female artist to hold the top two positions on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart with 'Foolish' and 'What's Luv?' Her eponymous debut album, released in the same year, sold over 505,000 copies in its first week and earned her numerous awards, including a Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Ashanti's debut album has since gone triple platinum in the United States and sold six million copies worldwide.
