Bob Backlund Biography
Robert Louis Backlund (born August 14, 1949) is an American retired amateur and professional wrestler. He gained prominence during his appearances in the World Wide Wrestling Federation/World Wrestling Federation from 1976 to 1984 and in the 1990s, where he held the WWWF Championship/WWF Championship twice. Backlund's first reign as champion is the second longest in history according to WWE. He began his wrestling career as an amateur wrestler for the North Dakota State University Bison in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Backlund then trained as a professional wrestler under Eddie Sharkey in 1973 and competed in various promotions such as the American Wrestling Association and National Wrestling Alliance. In 2013, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
