Brad Carter, born David Bradley Carter on December 5, 1973, is an American actor, guitarist, painter, sculptor, and photographer. He is best known for his roles as Charlie Lange in True Detective and Leland Gruen in Sons of Anarchy. Carter gained attention after undergoing brain surgery in 2013 to treat a brain disease and tremors, which he recorded and posted on YouTube. The video went viral, earning him the nickname 'the guy playing guitar during brain surgery.' Born in Fort Worth, Texas and raised in Macon, Georgia, Carter graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. He has also made notable guest appearances in shows such as It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Justified, and Dexter.
