Brian Stokes Mitchell is an American actor and singer, born on October 31, 1957, in Seattle, Washington. With a powerful baritone voice, he has become one of the leading men in Broadway theater since the 1990s. In 2000, Mitchell won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his outstanding performance in Kiss Me, Kate. Growing up, he lived in various U.S. military bases overseas as his father worked for the U.S. Navy. Mitchell discovered his passion for acting during his time in San Diego, California, where he participated in school musicals. While he didn't attend college, he received private training in acting and voice. Mitchell also studied film scoring, orchestration, and conducting through UCLA. Prior to Ragtime production, he was known professionally as Bri.
