Buzz Aldrin Biography
Buzz Aldrin, born Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr. on January 20, 1930, is an American former astronaut, engineer, and fighter pilot. He achieved fame as the Lunar Module Eagle pilot on the Apollo 11 mission in 1969, becoming the second person to walk on the Moon after Neil Armstrong. Aldrin made three spacewalks during the 1966 Gemini 12 mission. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1951 and served as a jet fighter pilot during the Korean War, flying 66 combat missions. Aldrin holds a Doctor of Science degree in astronautics from MIT and was the first astronaut with a doctoral degree.
