Known for his politically charged comedy, Mencia often tackles topics such as race relations, Latin American culture, criminal justice, and social class. He gained widespread recognition as the host of the Comedy Central show Mind of Mencia, which aired from 2005 to 2008. However, during this time, Mencia faced accusations of plagiarism and joke theft from several comedians. Born in San Pedro Sula, Mencia moved to the United States as a child and was raised Catholic in East Los Angeles by his aunt Consuelo. Despite being born Ned Arnel Mencía, he later began using the Holness surname out of respect for his father, until the age of 18.
