Charles Jarman

Charles Jarman (1893 – 1947) was a British trade union leader known for his work in the National Union of Seamen (NUS). Born in Bristol, Jarman joined the Royal Navy at fourteen but left due to an injury. He then became involved in the NUS, rising through the ranks to become its national organiser and later district secretary in various districts. He later moved to New York City as the union's representative in the United States. In 1942, Jarman became the leader of the NUS, holding the title of acting general secretary until an election could be organized after the Second World War. He also served on the General Council of the Trades Union Congress and was president of the Seamen's Section of the International Transport Workers' Federation.
