Dan Rather is an American journalist, commentator, and former national evening news anchor. Born on October 31, 1931, in Texas, he gained national recognition for his reporting during Hurricane Carla in 1961, where he helped save thousands of lives by creating the first radar weather report. Throughout his career, Rather reported on significant events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Gulf War, 9/11, the Iraq War, and the war on terror. He is also known for his coverage of President John F. Kennedy's assassination in Dallas in 1963.
