Born on May 1, 1968, in South Haven, Michigan, Wretzky grew up in a musical household and was encouraged by her mother, a working musician, to pursue music. She played the violin and oboe, performed in choirs, and also participated in gymnastics. Wretzky developed a passion for music from a young age and gained interest in post-punk during high school.
