Dave Hebner Biography
Dave Hebner (May 17, 1949 – June 17, 2022) was an American professional wrestling authority figure, promoter, road agent, and referee. He began his career as a professional wrestling referee in the late 1970s in the Richmond, Virginia area. In 1986, Hebner joined the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), where he officiated many iconic matches such as Randy Savage versus Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania III and Randy Savage versus Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania V. He is best known for his role in the February 5, 1988 episode of WWF The Main Event, when he refereed the match for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship between Hulk Hogan and André the Giant. André won the match after Hebner's twin brother, Earl, took his place as the referee. Despite controversy surrounding the pinfall, André was declared the champion.
