    David Gerrold (born Jerrold David Friedman; January 24, 1944) is an American science fiction screenwriter and novelist. He is known for writing the script for the original Star Trek episode 'The Trouble with Tribbles' and creating the Sleestak race on the TV series Land of the Lost. Gerrold's novelette 'The Martian Child' won both Hugo and Nebula Awards and was adapted into a 2007 film starring John Cusack. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Gerrold attended Van Nuys High School, Ulysses S. Grant High School, Los Angeles Valley College, and San Fernando Valley State College. He began writing for Star Trek shortly after its premiere, with his 60-page outline for the episode 'Tomorrow Was Yesterday'.
