David Kirkwood
David Kirkwood, 1st Baron Kirkwood, PC (8 July 1872 – 16 April 1955), was a Scottish politician, trade unionist, and socialist activist. Born and educated in the East End of Glasgow, Kirkwood trained as an engineer. He became a prominent figure in the Red Clydeside era, known for his leadership in the Amalgamated Society of Engineers and the Independent Labour Party (ILP). Kirkwood served on the Glasgow Trade Council and was a member of the Clyde Workers' Committee (CWC). As convenor of the CWC, he played a key role in organizing shop floor opposition to government policies during the Clyde engineers' pay dispute of 1915. Kirkwood's contributions to the labour movement made him a respected figure in Scottish politics.
