David X. Cohen (born July 13, 1966) is an American television writer. He gained recognition for his work on popular animated shows Beavis and Butt-Head and The Simpsons. Cohen is best known as the head writer, showrunner, and executive producer of the beloved animated series Futurama, and as a producer of Disenchantment. Born in New York City as David S. Cohen, he changed his middle initial to 'X' to comply with Writers' Guild policies. With a background in physics, Cohen initially planned to pursue a career in science but found success in writing and cartooning. Cohen is of Jewish descent and holds degrees from Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley.
