Dennis Weaver Biography
William Dennis Weaver (June 4, 1924 – February 24, 2006) was an American actor and former president of the Screen Actors Guild. He is best known for his work in television and films from the early 1950s until just before his death in 2006. Weaver gained popularity for his roles as Chester Goode/Proudfoot in the CBS western series Gunsmoke and as Deputy Marshal Sam McCloud in the NBC police drama McCloud. He also starred in the 1971 television film Duel, directed by Steven Spielberg. Additionally, Weaver is remembered for his portrayal of a twitchy motel attendant in Orson Welles's film Touch of Evil (1958).
