Dusty Hill Biography
Joe Michael 'Dusty' Hill (May 19, 1949 – July 28, 2021) was an American musician. He was best known as the bassist, lead and backing vocalist, and keyboardist of the rock band ZZ Top for over 50 years. Born in Dallas, Texas, Hill began his musical career performing with his brother, Rocky Hill. In 1968, he joined guitarist Billy Gibbons and drummer Frank Beard to form ZZ Top. Known for their 'big', distorted sound, ZZ Top released albums such as the bestselling Eliminator (1983). Hill's basslines were praised as a critical component of the band's sound. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Hill passed away in 2021 and was replaced by Elwood Francis, the band's longtime guitar tech, as per his wishes.
