Eric Schweig (born Ray Dean Thrasher on June 19, 1967) is an Indigenous Canadian actor known for his portrayal of Chingachgook's son Uncas in the film The Last of the Mohicans (1992). Born in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, Schweig is of mixed race, including Inuvialuk, Chippewa-Dene, and German heritage. He is the eldest of seven children who were all adopted out due to the Canadian government's assimilation policy. Schweig's biological mother passed away from alcoholism in 1989, and he never had the chance to meet her. Adopted by an English-speaking German-French family at six months old, he spent his early years in Inuvik before moving to Bermuda and then back to Canada later on.
