Ethan Green Hawke (born November 6, 1970) is an American actor, author, and film director. He made his film debut in Explorers (1985) and gained recognition for his breakthrough performance in Dead Poets Society (1989). Hawke is best known for his role in Richard Linklater's Before trilogy alongside Julie Delpy. He has received two Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for Training Day (2001) and Boyhood (2014), as well as two nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay for co-writing Before Sunset (2004) and Before Midnight (2013). Hawke has also appeared in notable films such as Reality Bites (1994), Gattaca (1997), and Maggie's Plan (2015). In addition to acting, he has directed several films and a documentary.
