    Gene Tenace, born Fiore Gino Tenacci on October 10, 1946, is a former American professional baseball player and coach. He played in Major League Baseball from 1969 to 1983 as a catcher and first baseman. Tenace is best known for his time as a member of the Oakland Athletics dynasty, winning three consecutive World Series championships from 1972 to 1974. He also played for the San Diego Padres, St. Louis Cardinals, and Pittsburgh Pirates. Despite a career batting average of .241, Tenace had an impressive career on-base percentage of .388, which is the fourth-highest among qualifying catchers. He was also known for his strong slugging percentage of .429, which was above the era's average. Tenace's Baseball Reference Wins Above Replacement (WAR) of 46.8 ranks 13th all-time among catchers.
