George Raymond Richard Martin, also known as GRRM, is an American novelist, screenwriter, television producer, and short story writer. Born on September 20, 1948, in Bayonne, New Jersey, Martin is the author of the acclaimed series of epic fantasy novels, A Song of Ice and Fire. These novels served as the basis for the Emmy Award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones, which aired from 2011 to 2019. Martin also played a role in the creation of the Wild Cards anthology series. In addition to his writing career, Martin is a citizen of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and has contributed to various creative ventures in the city, including funding the Meow Wolf art collective and owning the Jean Cocteau Cinema.
