Hayley Elizabeth Atwell (born April 5, 1982) is a British and American actress. She studied acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and made her stage debut in 2005. Atwell gained recognition for her role as Lady Elizabeth Foster in The Duchess (2008), receiving a British Independent Film Award nomination. She also earned critical acclaim for her leading performance in the miniseries The Pillars of the Earth (2010), which garnered her a Golden Globe Award nomination. Atwell achieved international fame as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, appearing in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and her own series Agent Carter (2015–2016). She has also appeared in Testament of Youth (2014), Cinderella (2015), Christopher Robin (2018), and other films.
