James D'Arcy, born Simon Richard D'Arcy on August 24, 1975, is an English actor and film director. He gained recognition for his role as Edwin Jarvis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series Agent Carter and the film Avengers: Endgame. D'Arcy also portrayed Lee Ashworth in the second season of the ITV series Broadchurch and appeared as Colonel Winnant in Christopher Nolan's war movie Dunkirk. Born in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, D'Arcy was raised in Fulham, London. He attended Christ's Hospital and later had a year in Australia, where he worked in the drama department of Christ Church Grammar School in Perth. D'Arcy has family in Ireland, England, and Scotland.
