James Norton is an English film, television, and stage actor. He was born on July 18, 1985, in Lambeth, London. Norton is known for his roles in popular TV series such as Happy Valley, Grantchester, War & Peace, and McMafia. In 2015, he received a nomination for the British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Happy Valley. Norton's parents, Hugh and Lavinia, were both teachers, with his father being a lecturer at Hull School of Art and Design. Growing up in North Yorkshire, Norton has fondly described his childhood as 'idyllic'. His grandfather, Ian Norton, MBE, served as a colonial official in Tanganyika. Norton continues to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry with his versatile acting skills.
