He is best known for his role as the lead in the drama series The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies, which earned him a BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor. Watkins has also appeared in notable TV shows such as Being Human, Trollied, W1A, and McDonald & Dodds. He has portrayed characters like William Herrick, Gavin Strong, Simon Harwood, and Detective Sergeant Dodds. In addition, he has played the role of British Prime Minister Harold Wilson in Season 3 of The Crown.
