James William Ross, born on January 3, 1952, is an American professional wrestling commentator currently signed with All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He is known for his long and distinguished career as a play-by-play commentator for the WWE. Ross, affectionately called JR or Good Ol' JR, has been labeled as the greatest wrestling commentator of all time. He started his career as the primary play-by-play announcer for Mid-South Wrestling in the early 1980s, and then went on to do commentary for the National Wrestling Alliance and World Championship Wrestling. Ross joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in 1993, making his first appearance at WrestleMania IX. He was widely regarded as the voice of the company, especially during the Attitude Era. Ross has also appeared on various other TV shows and has made several movie cameos.
