Joey Kramer, born Joseph Michael Kramer on June 21, 1950, is an American musician known for his role as the drummer in the hard rock band Aerosmith. Born in the Bronx, New York City, Kramer is the son of Doris and Mickey Kramer, a businessman. He received a bar mitzvah and has Jewish heritage. Before joining Aerosmith, Kramer was a member of The Institution, a notable New Jersey garage band. It was in 1968, while listening to Harry Nilsson's album Aerial Ballet, that Kramer came up with the name Aerosmith. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
