John Patrick McEnroe Jr. (born February 16, 1959) is an American former professional tennis player. Known for his shot-making and volleying skills, McEnroe had notable rivalries with Björn Borg and Jimmy Connors during his career. His confrontational on-court behavior often got him in trouble with umpires and tennis authorities. McEnroe holds the distinction of being the only male player in tennis history to hold the world No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles simultaneously. He finished his career with 77 singles titles and 78 doubles titles, the highest men's combined total of the Open Era. McEnroe won seven Grand Slam singles titles and nine Grand Slam men's doubles titles.
