John Woodvine (born 21 July 1929) is an English actor known for his extensive work in theatre, television, and film. With over 70 theatre productions and a similar number of TV and film roles, Woodvine has established himself as a versatile performer. He was born in Tyne Dock, South Shields, England, to Rose and John Woodvine. Woodvine received his education at Lord Williams's School in Thame, Oxfordshire, and trained for the stage at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 1953. Notable highlights of his career include working with the Old Vic company in the 1950s, appearing in the Scotland Yard film series, and having a long-standing association with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
