Joseph Mydell

Joseph Mydell (born 1955) is a screen and stage actor, writer, and public speaker. He was born in Savannah, Georgia and attended West Savannah elementary school and Tompkins High School. Mydell had the opportunity to meet Martin Luther King while studying at Morehouse College, where King spoke after receiving the Nobel Prize for Peace. Inspired by King, he participated in the Selma to Montgomery marches in 1965. Mydell furthered his education at New York University, School of the Arts, and City University of New York. He received his B.F.A. in 1970, M.F.A. in 1974, and Ph.D. in Theatre studies from CUNY in 1979. He gained experience as an actor, working with the Atlanta Morehouse Spelman Players, and has performed at various conferences and conventions throughout the United States.
