Judd Seymore Hirsch is an American actor born on March 15, 1935. He gained recognition for his portrayal of Alex Rieger on the popular TV comedy series Taxi (1978–1983). Hirsch also made a mark with his roles as John Lacey in Dear John (1988–1992) and Alan Eppes in Numb3rs (2005–2010). Alongside his TV success, he has had a notable theatre career and has starred in several films, including Ordinary People (1980), Running on Empty (1988), Independence Day (1996), A Beautiful Mind (2001), Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), Uncut Gems (2019), and The Fabelmans (2022). Hirsch has received numerous accolades, including two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Tony Awards. He was also twice nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Hirsch was born in the Bronx, New York.
