    Kathryn Ann Bigelow (born November 27, 1951) is an American filmmaker. She has received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, two BAFTA Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award. Bigelow made her directorial debut with the film The Loveless (1981) and gained recognition for directing thrillers such as Near Dark (1987), Blue Steel (1990), Point Break (1991), Strange Days (1995), and K-19: The Widowmaker (2002). In 2008, she became the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director for The Hurt Locker. Bigelow has also directed Zero Dark Thirty (2012), Detroit (2017), and episodes of the NBC series Homicide: Life on the Street (1998-1999).
