Larry Holmes (born November 3, 1949) is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1973 to 2002. He held the world heavyweight champion title from 1978 to 1985, making him one of the best heavyweight boxers of all time. Holmes, also known as the 'Easton Assassin,' grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania. He is renowned for his exceptional left jab, which is considered one of the best in heavyweight boxing history. In addition to his WBC heavyweight title, Holmes held the Ring magazine and lineal heavyweight titles from 1980 to 1985, as well as the inaugural IBF heavyweight title from 1983 to 1985. Throughout his career, Holmes achieved notable victories over fighters such as Muhammad Ali, Ken Norton, and Gerry Cooney. Although he fell short of matching Rocky Marciano's undefeated record, Holmes left an indelible mark on the sport of boxing.
