Laverne Cox
Laverne Cox (born May 29, 1972) is an American actress and LGBT advocate. She gained recognition for her role as Sophia Burset on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, making history as the first transgender person nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in an acting category. In 2015, she won a Daytime Emmy Award as executive producer for Laverne Cox Presents: The T Word, becoming the first trans woman to receive the honor. Cox made further strides in representation by becoming the first transgender person to play a transgender series regular on U.S. broadcast TV in CBS's Doubt. She has also appeared on reality shows like I Want to Work for Diddy and co-hosted TRANSform Me.
