Leslie Phillips Biography
Leslie Samuel Phillips (April 20, 1924 – November 7, 2022) was an English actor known for his smooth, upper-class comic roles. He gained fame in the 1950s with catchphrases like 'Ding dong' and 'Hello.' Phillips appeared in popular film series such as Carry On and Doctor in the House, and also starred in the long-running BBC radio comedy series The Navy Lark. In his later career, he ventured into dramatic roles, including a BAFTA-nominated performance alongside Peter O'Toole in Venus (2006). Additionally, Phillips lent his voice to the Sorting Hat in several Harry Potter films. Born in Tottenham, he attended Larkswood Primary School in Chingford.
