John Michael Crichton (October 23, 1942 – November 4, 2008) was an American writer and filmmaker. He is best known for his science fiction, techno-thriller, and medical fiction novels, which have sold over 200 million copies worldwide. Crichton's works often explore themes of human technological advancement and its consequences, particularly in the realms of biotechnology and genetic modification. Many of his books have been adapted into films, with over a dozen receiving the Hollywood treatment. In addition to his writing career, Crichton had a medical background, having earned an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. However, he chose to focus on writing rather than practicing medicine.
