Sir Michael John Gambon (19 October 1940 – 27 September 2023) was an Irish-English actor known for his extensive career in film, television, and stage. He began his acting journey as one of the original members of the Royal National Theatre under Laurence Olivier's guidance. Throughout his six-decade-long career, Gambon received numerous accolades, including three Olivier Awards and four BAFTA TV Awards. In 1998, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to drama. Gambon appeared in various productions of William Shakespeare's works and was nominated for thirteen Olivier Awards, winning three times. He also made a notable Broadway debut in David Hare's Skylight, earning a Tony Award nomination. Gambon's film credits include Othello (1965), The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989), The Wings of the Dove (1997), Gosford Park (2001), and many more.
