Michael Luwoye is an American actor of Nigerian descent, best known for his portrayal of the title role in the Broadway musical Hamilton. Born on December 19, 1990, in Huntsville, Alabama, Luwoye is the youngest of four children to Nigerian immigrant parents. His mother worked as an engineer and his father owned a wholesale ice cream distribution business. Luwoye developed an interest in the arts at a young age, and during his time at Lee High School, he learned to play the guitar and studied music theory and composition. It was during his junior year at the University of Alabama that he discovered his passion for theater, and he went on to play various roles in productions such as Moby Dick, Othello, Hair, and Show Boat. Luwoye has also received recognition for his voice performance in the preschool animated program Baby Shark's Big Show!, earning a nomination for the Children's and Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice Performance in 2022.
