Nathaniel David Rateliff (born October 7, 1978) is an American singer and songwriter based in Denver, Colorado. With influences in folk, Americana, and vintage rhythm & blues, Rateliff has established himself as a notable musician. He formed a backing band called the Night Sweats in 2013, exploring R&B in a side project. Rateliff has released three solo albums, two solo EPs, and one album as Nathaniel Rateliff & the Wheel. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 7, 1978, Rateliff grew up in Hermann, Missouri, where he learned to play the drums at a young age. As a teenager, he taught himself guitar and began writing songs. Moving to Denver at eighteen, Rateliff formed a band called Born in the Flood in 2002, gaining popularity and headlining local festivals. Despite declining a record deal from Roadrunner Records, Rateliff's musical journey continues to thrive.
