Paul Israel Sparer (December 19, 1923 – November 19, 1999) was an American character actor known for his appearances in soap operas and television shows. He portrayed Rex Cooper in the soap operas Somerset and Another World. Sparer gained recognition for his narration in the anthology TV series Tales from the Darkside. His film credits include Loving and The House on Carroll Street, while his notable television appearances include Armstrong Circle Theatre, Kojak, The Adams Chronicles, Lou Grant, and Spenser: For Hire. Sparer also had a role in the first episode of Law & Order, titled 'Prescription for Death'. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Sparer was married to actress Nancy Marchand. He passed away in Manhattan in 1999.
