Paula Julie Abdul (born June 19, 1962) is an American singer, dancer, choreographer, actress, and television personality. She gained recognition as a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers before becoming the head choreographer for the Laker Girls. It was through this role that she caught the attention of The Jacksons, leading to choreographing music videos for Janet Jackson. Abdul's talent as a choreographer soared during the music video era, and she was subsequently signed to Virgin Records. Her debut studio album, Forever Your Girl (1988), was a massive success, selling seven million copies in the United States and producing four number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Abdul's second album, Spellbound (1991), also achieved chart-topping success. With a total of six number-one singles, Abdul tied Diana Ross for the most number-one singles from a debut album on the Hot 100 chart.
